INTERIOR DESIGN

Interior design has become a recognised profession and Interior decoration a recognised business. Interior design involves decorative elements such as colour, textiles, and furniture along with space planning aspects and architectural building codes, materials, systems as well as methods of construction. This is a profession that directly affects the health and safety of the people and hence education is imperative for the understanding. Many opportunities are open to diploma in interior design programmes such as working in an architecture or interior design firm or start a private practice to design interiors for offices, hotels, restaurants, schools, hospitals, retail shops or museums. Lighting, furniture, set, fabric designing are also some of the specialised options. Writing for a magazine and interior journalism is another choice that enables to work in media. Actually, options available are almost endless.A good Interior Designer has interests in many different areas. While inspiration can come from fashion, graphics, textiles, films, nature, photography or in fact from anywhere; an individual who loves arts, architecture, furniture design, space planning can pursue interior design. For an individual who has sense of ‘good design’ and 3-D comprehension, this is a good field to explore. Although creativity is necessary to become a good designer, one need not be dissuaded by not possessing the ‘raw talent’.
